Help us keeping our centers open

and our projects running

We are still hanging on

We are faced with a gap of about $ 6,000 until spring 2023, when the new round of local support and income from our centers will come in again. Most pressing is the final payment (December 31) for a loan we had to take to pre- and co-finance our international World War I Heritage and Education project NETWORLD.

Please help us with bridging this gap so we can continue with our work.

At the end of the page is a more extensive explanation what your money will do to help keeping our Society functioning and our centers running. In short, the Museum and the Smithy do not generate enough income to cover all expenses, and our non-profit projects and community activities also do not provide additional income. Most EU projects equire an own contribution of 15%, making us permanently short of cash.

In that situation, the COVID pandemic and the wart in Ukraine caused us significant losses especially in 2021 and 2022, and completely depleted our cash reserves. Donating $20 or $50 will already help us, but larger donations are needed as well.

The municipality of Jilovice-Kojakovice, the Town of Nove Hrady, and our local bank regulary support us, helping to cover the bare expenses.

Clicking the button will bring you to the secure site of PayPal, which handles donations for us. This can also be done through credit card payment; a paypal account is NOT necessary. Include your address and email as shipping address so we can send you confirmation of your donation. If you prefer to donate through on-line banking or for larger donations, please use our US bank account.

Beware: you do NOT need a PayPal account; the PayPal site also accepts credit cards.

Our donation wish list

Keeping our heritage and education centres open and our organziation active.

With the project funding for most EU projects, we have to pre- and co-finance our projects. Due to the COVID pandemic, our income over 2020 was less than expected and the years 2021 and 2022 were downright disastrous: less than 50% income from the pre-COVID period. Many local sponsors and private donors had met financial restrictions as well, further reducing our income. The strong increase in prices and inflation due to the war in Ukraine also cause serious problems.

As result, all our income and fiancial reserves were used to cover costs and especially repay the last few installments of our loan for the NETWORLD project. We were able to manage with our private reserves and help from friends and family. Unfortunately, we still face a gap of $ 6,000 until March 2023, when new income starts to arrive.

This also means that we cannot participate in new projects and also have to restrict our cultural activities.

Most entrepreneurs or cultural institutions are elligible for support under the COVID pandemic laws. Unfortunateluy, according the Czech law, as a non-prfit we are not eligible for any support, neither cultural support nor entrepreneur support. All the losses due to the pandemic therefore have to be covered by income through donations from abroad.

Thank you for your support

For who wants to read and know more:
why should you support this

Most of the American people are prepared to give something to non-profits helping Americans and preserving American heritage. But why should you help a foreign non-profit working in South Bohemia, Czech Republic?

We can give several arguments why you should help us support the Museum and the Society. In the end, it all boils down to two things:

  • You think that our heritage preservation and regional development activities are something worth supporting, especially in this uncertain period
  • You realize that without help from foreign donations, a Czech non-profit grass-roots organization cannot survive or operate a museum despite a healthy track record in project funding. European project funding simply does not pay for all costs, private donations are still not common in this post-communist country.

Another MAYOR one? It is also about investigating and preserving a not very well known part of American history. The background and stories of those who emigrated, why they left their home country to travel to America and help settle the new US states, is part of our and your American history as well.

What the Society needs

The Rozmberk Society has a very impressive track record in obtaining project funding. Until recently, no funds are needed for running specific projects or activities. Unfortunately, European Union and Czech grants now need pre-financing and grants hardly ever cover all costs. In addition, daily operating cost (office rent, staff, developing project proposals, etc) are not paid for at all. ON top of this, an outstanding loan for pre-fiancing our WWI project is blocking all other project applications.

Basically, the Society needs funds to repay our loan and the other running costs.

Both visitor's places are too small to ask for high entrance fees and income from fees and our small gift shop is not enough to pay for all running costs. Although this income helps, it is not sufficient to pay for all operating costs either.

Your money also goes a long way. For example, the costs for employing one person for one month in our region is 1,200 USD, including all taxes, social and health insurances (of which only only 650 USD reaches the employee after taxes).
